The QA Manager will develop, implement and coordinate the quality program to prevent or eliminate defects in new or existing products and systems by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS include the following:
 
  • Administers and oversees all ISO 9001:2008 quality system requirements.
  • Manages both the quality assurance department (2-3 direct reports) and the quality control department (11 direct reports—i.e. final inspection and metrology).
  • Analyzes, evaluates and presents information concerning factors such as business situations, production capabilities, manufacturing problems, economic trends and design and development of new products for consideration by other members of the management team from a quality perspective.
  • Suggests and leads initiatives to improve processes by utilizing lean methodologies and tools that will improve top level KPI’s. 
  • Achieve aggressive target improvements for KPI goals including internal scrap and returns, and on-time delivery.
  • Interfaces effectively with customers and suppliers as to ensure quality is represented through the entire business value stream.
  • Cooperates with other top management personnel in formulating and establishing company policies, operating procedures and goals.
  • Develops initial and subsequent modifications of the quality program to delineate areas of responsibility, personnel requirements and operational procedures within program.
  • Evaluates contents of reports from operational areas and confers with top management personnel preparatory to formulating fiscal budget for product assurance program.
  • Conducts meetings with manufacturing, management and quality areas to establish, delineate and review program policies, to coordinate functions and operations between departments and to establish responsibilities and procedures for attaining objectives.
  • Reviews technical problems and procedures of departments and recommends solutions to problems or changes in procedures.
  • Visits and confers with representatives of material and component suppliers to obtain information related to supply chain quality, capacity of supplier to meet orders and supplier quality standards.
  • Confers with engineers about quality assurance of new products design and manufacturing methods to prevent or rectify problems.
  • Reviews technical publications, articles and abstracts to stay abreast of technical developments in industry.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
 
  • Experience with SPC and Six Sigma tools (e.g. VSM’s, DMAIC, FMEA, DOE’s, etc.).
  • Identifies, recruits, and develops the strongest talent.  Proactive in developing, remediating, or removing weak players. 
  • Has the charisma to lead a dynamic organization.
  • Ability to influence and strategically partner with individuals of various educational and technical backgrounds, both inside and outside the organization.
  • This position will have access to ITAR sensitive documents and requires U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency.

  • Qualified candidates must have hands-on experience in the optics/photonics industry.
  • Ability to interpret GD&T drawings.
  • Ability to use Microsoft office including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access.
 
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
BS in optics, physics or related field
Minimum of 5 years quality management experience in an optical manufacturing environment
