Sr. Optical Network Engineer
 
Summary:
Rapidly growing optical network company is in immediate need of a Senior Optical/Network Engineer with extensive experience in fiber optics and the engineering and design of carrier class IP networks. Individual would be a key contributor in the development of new active and passive optical products in addition to the technical and marketing content needed to promote and sell those products.

Your main responsibilities include interface with customers in developing solutions for network applications, closely work with product development and design team on product offerings, and assist with development of a production test environment.
1. Application Engineering Support
Support our clients customers and sales team in developing and selling products to meet customer needs including optical transceiver (SFP+, X2, XFP, Xenpak, and GBIC) components for IT, Networking, and telecommunications companies operating in the following platforms Cisco, MRV, 3com, HP, Foundry, Extreme, Juniper, Alcatel, etc.
2. Development and Testing
Work with multiple vendor telecommunication and network platforms in a test lab environment.
  • Develop and perform multi-protocol/platform error rate testing
  • Establish protocols for transceiver compliance certification.
  • Develop procedures for documenting laser characterization
  • Advanced component level troubleshooting and resolution
  • Support customers during product implementation
Additional Job Requirements:
  • Ability to use and understand the tools associated with optics lab environment, i.e. fusion slicer, OSA, scopes, soldering, etc.
  • Experience with optical transceivers such as GBIC, X2, Xenpak, XFP, SFP, SFP+ SFF, BIDI, TOSA, ROSA, etc.
  • Familiar with networking protocols such as Fiber Chanel, Ethernet, SONET etc.
  • Familiar with system level components such as routers and switches.
  • Travel domestically in support of corporate sales objectives and internationally to audit our Asian manufactures
  • Provide test and turn up of active as well as passive components
  • Pre and post-sales support for Service Providers and MSOs.
Education:
MS Degree in an Engineering related field or commensurate experience.
