We're recruiting for a Sr. Opto-Mechanical Engineer for a good client in Upstate NY!
Must be strong in 3D Modeling using SolidWorks or similar software.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the mechanical design of opto-mechanical systems, and generation and release of engineering drawings documenting such systems.  This person will provide mechanical design support through product manufacturing.
  • Work with Optical and Test engineers to generate top-down architecture design, conduct in-depth analytical trade studies of possible technical approaches, topologies, tools and architectures. Develop designs for components, systems and products utilizing product specifications as a starting point; perform functional and physical verification of the design.
  • Provide detailed design and test requirements documentation for procurement and fabrication of optical and mechanical components. Provide accurate test requirements and support design/ verification of test fixtures.
  • Assist the Test and Assembly Department personnel, as needed, to produce optical systems.
  • Interface with opto-mechanical and CAD designers to define tooling and optical mounting, based on predicted worst-case optical tolerances.
  • Mentor less experienced personnel.

REQUIREMENTS:
A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar engineering), with 10+ years experience in opto-mechanical engineering.
  • In-depth understanding of mechanical and opto-mechanical principles and practices.
  • Expert knowledge of 3D modeling using CAD software (SolidWorks highly preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with alignment/ troubleshooting of sophisticated lens assemblies. Experience with interferometric test instrumentation is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) per ANSI standard.
  • Working knowledge of FEA analysis CAD tools (COSMOS, ANSYS) is an advantage.
  • Ability to understand customer requirements and translate them into system and subsystem performance specifications.
  • Ability to understand optical design requirements and translate them into corresponding mechanical designs.
  • Ability to work independently and complete complex tasks without step-by-step instructions.
  • Ability to generate accurate personnel, materials, schedule and budgets requirements in support of complex engineering proposals, and meet those estimates.
  • Capable of materials investigation, evaluation and selection. Understand cementing, potting and mechanical retention techniques applied to optical elements.
  • Ability to work with assembly and test technicians to develop and debug test procedures.
  • Attention to detail and to demonstrate ability to generate complete designs & BOMs.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
  • Ability to write technical reports in concise and accurate English.
