  • Optical coating technicians implement design strategies, manage machinery and work with other employees to meet client needs for lenses, mirrors and other optical devices. 
  • Participate in all aspects of coating, including design, process development and documentation, analysis, cleaning and inspection.
  • Coating Technicians are responsible for oversight of equipment usage and hands-on work on preventative maintenance, minor repairs and improvements to coating machinery.
  • Thoroughly inspect all “cleaned for Coating” optics to ensure surface to be coated is free of any defect
  • Read blueprints and follow the specifications of each job ensuring compliance with the customer’s needs
  • Operate optical coating equipment including crystal and optical monitors
  • Run “Thin Film Programs” on computer and model all coatings
  • Reliably calculate work to monitor ratios; able to analyze problem coatings and modify formula to run in specific machines
  • Adjust existing formulas to various glass index changes, and move coatings up or down in wavelengths
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Maintain reliable records, including accurate job logs of all coating runs and curves
  • Perform minor repairs to coating equipment; keeping all equipment clean and operable
  • Clean all finished work for cementing, inspection, etc.
  • Miscellaneous duties and projects as needed
  • 3+ years’ experience operating thin-film coating equipment required
  • Coating design with TF Calc
  • High school diploma required; 2 year degree a plus
  • Experience working within a manufacturing environment and understanding of production workflow
  • Must be familiar with various glasses, dispersion, and TG factor; and must also be familiar with coating materials (index, temperature, rate, etc.)
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt in a changing environment
  • High attention to detail and effective organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in cross-functional teams
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel
  • US Citizen/Permanent Resident
